The sweet fragrance of Lavender, the uplifting smell of Peppermint and the relaxing feeling derived from inhaling Basil.

Aroma-therapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils topically or inhaled to create relaxation and balance within the body, mind, and spirit.

Basically essential oils are the volatile oils derived from a plant through the distillation process.  There is so much information available on the topics of aromatherapy and essential oils that a person could spend the rest of their life smelling and learning all the different fragrances and benefits derived from such an olfactory experience.

So my intent of this blog is to share my experiences with essential oils.

Lavender is one of my favorites. I use it at night for relaxation combined with Frankincense, Cedar wood, and BergamotLavender has a calming effect, relaxes the body and eases tension for promoting deep relaxation.

Frankincense reduces chronic stress, anxiety, pain, inflammation and boosts immunity.

Cedarwood helps promote a good night’s rest, is calming and grounding, relieves tension by creating serotonin that causes the release of melatonin. Melatonin helps to create a sedative state and give you restorative sleep waking refreshed in the morning.

My personal blend, Achy Muscle, was created to ease over-exercised muscles. This is a proprietary blend of Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Ginger which is excellent for relief of painful muscles and the inability to move and stiffness.

Eucalyptus is a marvelously versatile oil. It cools the body in the summer and protects it in the winter. It is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibiotic, analgesic and deodorizing.

Peppermint is health promoting properties, excellent digestive aid, and helps respiratory system and circulation, is anti-inflammatory and antiseptic and excellent for the treatment of fatigue.

Ginger is helpful with Rheumatism, muscular aches and pains.

The diffuser in my massage room is emitting the relaxation blend of Lavender, Ylang Ylang and Bergamot, so when my client shows up for a therapeutic massage, the room is ready with an “air” of relaxation.

My latest discovery is a blend of citrus oils called “Smiles For Miles” by NOW, which awakens your olfactory receptors. I like to use this blend when I need a light uplifting feeling like at the end of the day when I’m driving home. I’ll add a few drops to my cigarette lighter car diffuser and within minutes the air in the car smells of lemons and oranges and guarantees an awakened drive home.

Or you can enjoy a full body massage with your choice of essential oils to create the effect you desire.
