Precious Time

to me is precious, not priceless. Priceless denotes monetary value. How can you put $$$ signs on time. Precious, on the other hand, says that time is something given to us on a daily basis. Who gives us this time? Well I think that God does. You may call it the Universe, Higher Power or some other Deity. Either way, it is a gift. We  cannot give it to ourselves.

As I am just entering the 6th decade of life on this earth, I look back and ponder at all the time that has passed. What did I do with my time? Was it productive? Did I contribute to my little world in a positive way? Did I make an effect globally? With the introduction of the internet during my lifetime, global is now part of our world and allows us to affect the entire world. Are you up for that challenge?

What, dear reader, have you contributed in your time on earth? Remember that even the slightest thing as a smile to someone who may be having a not-so-wonderful day, will brighten their day, but you may never know about it.

Your time spent each day cannot be retrieved in any way. If you made a mistake today, well that’s a learning experience and hopefully, you won’t repeat it. But if you do, you will have time to learn the lesson another time.

When my son was growing up, time was measured by his age. If something happened during the period of time that he lived with me, I would recall that memory based on his age. Now that he is on his own, time has a different way of being measured.

Today I measure time by how much I’ve accomplished during my waking hours and by how many people I’ve talked to that day and what the conversation was about. To recall such memories I think of the person and time of year we spent together.

Since I’ve been living on my sailboat, time is also measured by the weather and wildlife happenings. What time did the storm pass by? What time did it rain? Remember when the otters showed up on the pier, it was after dark, not sure what time the clock said.

Time to create a tighter schedule. I’m taking my massage business to another level……Mobile, meaning I come to your home or corporation. This change in time management  will need to allow for travel time, setup and breakdown time. How much time do I allow between appointments to accommodate for this extra accounting of time?

When does time become so precious? When we grow older and children leave home? When we retire and have more time? I think it depends on how you want to spend your time.

I was talking to a friend of mine who told me that I need to create a bucket list of all the things that I want to do with the time I have left on this earth. She suggested that the list might contain the same number of items as my age. So I am to list 62 things. WOW! That’s a lot of things to do with my remaining time. But, if you look at my life, I’ve done more than 10x that amount over the years I’ve lived. These things on the list don’t have to grandiose, just things that will take time and create memories and happiness. I believe, memories are all we take with us when we pass on from this earthly existence.

Dear Reader, I would like to leave you with some words of inspiration:

To every thing there is a season, and  time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die;

A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted

A time to kill, and a time heal;

A time to break down, and a time to buildup;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh;

A time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose;

A time to keep and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sew;

A time to keep silence and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate;

A time of war, and a time of peace;

He hath made everything beautiful in His Time.

Ecclesiastes 4:1 – 8, 11 –  King James Version

Many Blessings with your Time.
